Survivor: Reflexology

What is Reflexology

Reflexology is a holistic, natural, safe, non-toxic approach to good health. Relieve tension, stress and improve circulation to maintain body balance. The science of reflexology is a natural approach to better health to improve circulation, break up congestion, relieve muscle pain, relax nervous tension and help nature to normalize body function. Reflexology is a type of preventative maintenance to help a person meet the demands and stresses of daily life. Doctors agree that 75% of health problems can be linked to stress. The healing takes place on a cellular level. By relaxing pressure points in your hands and feet, it can help spread relief to different parts of your body.

How it works

Clarissa Fuller is the appointed reflexologist for Seniors Helping Seniors. During her treatments, she uses essential oils, which date back to ancient healing methods. She rubs the essential oils into the soles of your feet. Applying essential oils to your feet is a great way to absorb the oils into your body. With over 2,000 pores in each foot, they have some of the largest pores on your body. They can be applied using Young Living’s Vita-Flex foot chart (image shown above) to support a particular body system. When applied topically, it takes only 2-3 minutes for an oil to reach the bloodstream, 20 minutes to affect every cell in the body, and 2 ½ hours to fully metabolize.

Humble Beginings

Clarissa was introduced to reflexology at a young age. In the ’50s when Clarissa was in high school, her mom saw a reflexologist. She really enjoyed the treatment and it sparked Clarissa’s interest. As she got older, Clarissa saw a reflexologist as well for shoulder pain. She eventually decided to get herself certified for reflexology as well as nutrition. Reflexology helps supplement her income, and she can give herself treatment when needed. This way, not only could she make money, but she could help others with their pain as well as her own.

The Future of Medicine

In the 2000s, people grew sick of prescriptions and medications. Thomas Edison once said, “The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest the patient in the care of the human frame, in diet and in the cause and prevention of disease.” Clarissa says that she “texts your toes to tune you up”. When she does the treatment on your feet, it actually looks like she is typing a text message on your feet! Clarissa’s goal is to “help people feel better the way God intended”.

Staying Active

Clarissa is 85 years old, but she is more active than most 20-year old’s! She bikes/walks/swims daily. She is always doing yard work or upkeep around the house. She bikes an average of 1000 miles per year! She believes that staying active and focusing on natural health is the key to living a long life. “You use it, or you lose it; you rest you rust,” is one of the sayings she lives by.
