Reclaiming Freedom

From the time we are young, all we want to do is grow up. Then we do, and the fear of the inevitable sets in. Many people find that as they get older, they struggle more to do certain things. It can be hard to ask for help. Seeing other elderly people receiving in-home healthcare, from a young person in uniform, can generate some anxiety. The thought of having to have someone help you do normal tasks can be embarrassing. Seniors Helping Seniors was founded to relieve elderly people of that stressor. One of the many goals is to return hope, and inspiration, to the lives of the elderly. One goal for this business is to educate people that although aging is inevitable for all of us, it doesn’t have to be a negative, scary or isolating experience.

As we age, our bodies require different things to keep us healthy. A healthy diet, physical exercise, and positive human interaction, are just a few things that can make a world of difference in a Senior’s life. Many businesses provide nonmedical services to elders. The difference with Seniors Helping Seniors, is that they hire Seniors. Many people may wonder, why an elderly person is taking care of another elderly person. The reasoning behind this is simple. Two elderly people have a higher likelihood of creating a good connection. They lived through some of the same things, had some mutual experiences, and have a better chance at forming a friendship with one another.

Seniors Helping Seniors strives to give elderly people back their freedom and independence, not take it away. At Seniors Helping Seniors, our caretakers don’t wear uniforms. It doesn’t feel like having a “caretaker” help you to the grocery store for example, rather, a friend that is similar in age. It simply feels like you “are getting a little help from your friends!” That is one of the biggest reasons as to why elderly people are afraid to ask for help. They feel like they are reverting back to childhood and having someone taking care of them, and it can be embarrassing. That is a big reason why Seniors Helping Seniors was founded. To end the stereotypes that aging is equated with surrendering your pride, and giving up your independence. At Seniors Helping Seniors, we strive to increase your level of dignity, ability and freedom by redefining what caregiving looks like.
